July D&D

Welcome to Dungeons & Dragons Camping!

Thank you for joining your party for July 10-12.

Your Dungeon Master will be Anthony Polegato and you will be joining five other players for the Strange Phenomena campaign.

Your Dungeon Master

My name is Anthony.

I’m a 34-year-old Dungeon Master with over 14 years of experience with DnD 5e, crafting immersive worlds, unforgettable characters, and story-driven adventures.

I specialize in creating engaging, player-focused campaigns that blend strategy, creativity, and collaborative storytelling.

Your Campaign

Level 5

A reclusive wizard’s experiments have begun to warp reality itself. Strange phenomena spill into the surrounding lands, and something inside their tower is pushing beyond the limits of magic.

Session Zero

Your DM will be in contact with you once your party has been filled. A group chat will be set up to go over specifics as the weekend approaches. Please be sure to ask any questions you have in advance and to answer any questions the DM may have before the weekend occurs. We want to get playing as soon as we can so the more ‘session zero’ stuff we can get out of the way ahead of time, the better!

Lets All Be Friends!

Some of the folks you will be playing with may know each other but it is also possible that you could all be meeting each other for the first time. Please be patient, helpful, and kind. Some may be experts, some may be beginners. Remember, we were all starting out for the first time at one point. New players are encouraged to learn as much as they are able to ahead of time. There are many resources out there. Your DM and the other players are a great place to start. They can answer questions and point you toward the resources available for you to learn what you can before the weekend begins.

Directions

  • Location: 774 McVeigh Rd, Perth, Ontario K7H 3C9 Canada
    • 1 hour from Ottawa
    • 2.5 hours from Montreal
    • 3.5 hours from Toronto
    • 20 minutes from Perth
  • If you are coming from the West on Hwy 7, the last village you will go through will be Maberly. If you are coming from the East on Hwy 7, the last major town will be Perth and you will be turning off at Glen Tay.
  • As you approach the property from the East on McVeigh Rd, you will pass a lumber mill on the right and then you will see a small, old graveyard, also on the right. You have found us! If you get to the intersection of McVeigh Rd and Rutherford side road, you have gone too far!

The closest town where you can get food, ice, snacks, and other consumables would be Perth. About a 15-20 min drive.

Plan For Outdoor Fun!

Come prepared for the weather. Check ahead at the forecast. Make sure you bring appropriate clothing and bedding for the weekend. Bring sufficient bedding. It may be hot out but it isn’t unusual for things to cool down a lot in the country. Sometimes as low as 10 degrees! You will be playing in a large event tent and have access to hard topped gazebos to take shelter from the sun or rain. Make sure to bring a hat. It is your first, best defense against the sun and deer flies. ***Bring bug spray and sunblock!*** Please be mindful as you apply both and be sure to stand away from and downwind of others as you spray.

Camping

You are welcome to put your tent in any of the mowed areas as long as you aren’t obstructing an obvious pathway and stay clear of the fire. You are also welcome to put your tent in any wooded area but be aware that ticks are a concern and please, no smoking in the woods or in your tent at any time!

The Guest Cabin

The guest cabin is there for you to use if you requested it. It is possible that there may be beds available even if you didn’t choose to use the cabin but don’t count on it if you didn’t request it. There is one double bed if you are coming with someone you don’t mind sharing a bed with. The sleeping area is split into roughly three spaces by privacy curtains. The double bed is in one section, the bunk beds and fold out chair is in another section and then there are two beds located in the loft. There are slippers to wear inside the cabin or you could bring your own. Please do not wear your outside shoes past the entryway carpet.

Ticks

Go google them and Lyme disease and learn! Bug spray is your friend.
As with all woods and fields in Eastern Ontario, ticks abound. The play and camping area will be well mowed and the tick risk should be minimal there. But, ticks can be picked up anywhere. The biggest risk is in high grass and brambles and in the woods. Ticks are primarily found where mice live and mice like darker, grassy places. If you feel a tickle, check it out. Always. Ticks are almost no danger if discovered early, ideally when they haven’t yet attached. Make sure you check your whole body before bed. If you do find one attached, you can generally remove them easily if they have not been attached too long. There are good tick removal tools that can also be used. If they are deeply embedded you may end up leaving part of the tick behind. If you can remove those parts with tweesers, then do so but don’t go digging. Clean the area well with soap and water. If you are concerned they have been attached for a while, you may want to consider visiting the pharmacy for antibiotics before heading to the emergency room as they can often prescribe on their own.

Water, Bathrooms, and Showers

There are two, clean, outhouses to be used for your bathroom needs as well as a hand washing station beside each one. A shower is also available but keep in mind that the water is not heated. If you would like a warm shower, you will need to heat up some water on the stove to add to the existing bucket. Please bring your own soap and towels. Everyone shares the same shower (in turn, not at the same time!). Please be patient and respectful of others.

There is no running water on site. Water will be available for drinking and washing but be mindful of your use as it all needs to be brought to the site by hand. It is safe and tasty, coming from our deep well at the house.

We will all be in close quarters for much of the weekend. Both for playing, and for those using the cabin, for sleeping as well. Please be mindful of your personal hygiene so we can keep things as pleasant for all of us as possible.

Food

You will need to bring your own food and drink, other than water. You will want a cooler and enough ice to last you through to Sunday. You will be able to cook on the campfire grill, the BBQ, or on the propane stoves. It is always a good idea to plan meals that require minimal cooking or just require heating up, to make your life easier. There will be some pots, pans, and cooking utensils as well as plastic plates and cups. But, you are encouraged to bring your own dishes, or disposable paper plates. Please avoid disposable plastic as we should all be mindful of our impact on the environment. Paper plates can be put in the campfire.

The Land

You are welcome to wander the property while you are here. We have over 200 acres of forest and swamp for you to explore. There will be the standard wildlife that you are more likely to hear rather than see. Raccoons, squirrels, birds, porcupines, skunks, and you may even hear some coyotes at night. They will all do their best to avoid you, and your are advised to do the same. Remember, you are in their home and we want to leave it as we found it. There are some trails and please be sure to be mindful of the section here about Ticks.

Swimming

There isn’t anywhere to swim on the property unless you enjoy leeches and weeds. The closest places with public beaches would be Perth, Lanark, the Tay River, and Silver lake. About 15-30 min away.

Campfire

The campfire is there for you to enjoy. If there is a fire ban, we won’t have a fire but will have a nice propane fire pit to use. We have provided firewood but we have to buy the firewood so we will graciously accept any donations you may be able to contribute to that cost. There is a fire barrel near the shower with water if there is any need to put water on the campfire or any other fire that is of concern. Please do not use the fire extinguishers unless water is inappropriate.

Smoking/Vaping of any kind and Alcohol

You may smoke/vape but be very mindful. First, no smoking in or around the gaming tent or in the cabins or gazebos. Second, be sure you aren’t smoking/vaping around any other people who may be non-smokers and if you walk away, stay downwind. Dispose of your buts in the cans provided. Don’t throw them in the fire if anyone is cooking, or is about to cook on the fire. Please do not smoke in the woods or while walking.

You may drink alcohol if you are of legal age but please not to excess. Also, it is asked that you do not drink at the gaming table any earlier than 3pm.
