Experience with Table Top Role Playing and Dungeons & Dragons
You can be brand new. A long time veteran. Or someone returning after a long break. It doesn’t matter if you know this edition or a different game system. The Dungeon Master is practiced with novice and returning players and is ready to coach you. We encourage all the players to help each other to keep the game flowing. If you have no experience, or are coming from a different game system or edition, you are encouraged to do some reading and/or watching of some videos to have an idea what you are going into, (your DM can advise you on what to check out), but again, it isn’t required. Mainly what you need to be ready to do is role play and have fun! What do we mean by Role Play?
A One-Shot is a much, much shorter adventure of one primary story arc and it is designed to usually end in just a few hours. These are often done by Dungeon Masters to explore one fun idea and allows players to try things out they wouldn’t normally get to with their typical characters. It is a common game played at game conventions to allow a group of people, often strangers, to get together and play a quick game. Sometimes to try out a new game system or just have fun playing a traditional one. Usually, characters are provided to players to save time and allow them to jump right in.

What is a One-Shot?
Your ‘One-Shot’ will be a bit longer than most as it stretches over two days, but will still be confined to one main story arc. Players are encouraged to follow the DM’s generally obvious cues to the next part of the story-line so that you will be sure to be able to experience the whole story-line and bring it to completion and a sense of closure for your mini-adventure. There is some flexibility in the paths to the ending, but try not to strike off on too random a direction, as the DM will have greater difficulty in bringing the story to its natural conclusion by the end of the weekend.
Assuming you didn’t join the weekend at the last minute, you will have the option of creating your character ahead of the weekend, following the DMs guidance, and working with the rest the group to find a balance in your party. Friday night can even be an opportunity to do this. But, if you aren’t practiced, don’t have time, or like the surprise, you can opt to just use a pre-made character that the DM will provide you.
