Hourglass Coffee House — May, June, July, 2026

For my third show of the year, I’m pleased to be back in Perth.

It’s been ages since I’ve been in Hourglass Coffee House, and I can honestly say that it’s the kind of place that makes you richer for having visited. As I walked in yesterday, the first thing that hit me was the salty-sweet smell of freshly-cooked bacon. In the open kitchen, I could see BLT bagels being lovingly assembled. The next enticing scent was some sort of specialty spiced hot beverage. Mmmm.

The space is bigger than I remembered, and as I scanned the expanse of happy and chatty patrons in cozy armchairs, it was plain to see that the owner has built a community. In an hourglass, the sands are regulated to accurately measure the passage of time, but time seemed to slow down in this Hourglass, allowing every sip of coffee and every smile to linger and be fully pressed for every last drop of pleasantness.

As I continued past the counter, a server tenderly placed what looked like homemade candied fruit squares on a doily under a glass cake dome.

Entering the second seating area, I saw that the walls are full of ‘candy’ as well; eye-candy, that is.

Dedicated to Local Art

In addition to supporting local farmers, producers, and bakers, Owner, David Bridle, champions local artists. He has dedicated wall space for local art, and set in place the volunteer Artist Liaison, Bruce Raby. Bruce works with new artists in curating and installing shows. He is an accomplished artist in his own right, and is known locally for dynamic talks that are accompanied by his dramatic photography of the places he’s travelled.

Bruce being an artist himself makes it even more special that I was selected to show there. My little patch of display is above the fire place, and the two walls to its left.

I hope that you’ll take a few moments to visit the show. While you’re there, kindly support them with a little sweet or savoury treat for yourself.

Get in Touch Directly

The cafe encourages the public to get in touch with the artist directly, for purchase and inquiries. The cafe takes no commission, which means that your purchase sees 100% of the price go directly into the artist’s pocket. If there is a piece that is of interest to you, get in touch any time!
