For my fourth show of the year, I’m pleased to be back in Perth.
It’s been ages since I’ve been in Hourglass Coffee House, and I can honestly say that it’s the kind of place that makes you richer for having visited. As I walked in yesterday, the first thing that hit me was the salty-sweet smell of freshly-cooked bacon. In the open kitchen, I could see BLT bagels being lovingly assembled by caring staff. The next enticing scent was some sort of specialty spiced coffee. Time seemed to slow down, as I scanned the happy and chatty patrons in cozy armchairs. The owner has clearly built a community.
As I passed by the counter, a server tenderly placed what looked like homemade candied fruit squares on a doily under a glass cake dome.

Entering the second seating area, I saw that the walls are full of ‘candy’ as well; eye-candy, that is. In addition to supporting local farmers, producers, and bakers, Owner, David Bridle, champions local artists. He has dedicated space for art associations and artists. He’s also put in place an Artist Liaison, Bruce Raby, to work with new artists in curating and installing shows. Bruce is an artist in his own right, and is known locally for his dynamic talks that are accompanied by his vibrant photography of the places he’s travelled to.
I’m honoured to have been selected to show there. My little patch of display is above the fire place, and the two walls to its left.
I hope that you’ll have a few moments to check out the display. While you’re there, kindly support them with a little sweet or savoury treat for yourself.
