Fishing Lure Earrings

The al-lure of recycling reels me in every time

Is it any wonder —with their shimmering shapes, coruscating colour, and dynamic dances,— that I am mesmerized by fishing lures?

Sometimes I’ll wade through the fishing department of local stores, with the sole purpose of being spellbound by the stock. If that trip is late autumn (the end of fishing season), I find it difficult to pass up the sails sales on tackle at those stores or bait shops. I am baited bated alright.

In 2010, I bit hard.

3 hours and $300 later, I surfaced with my new “art supplies” in tow.

Those supplies inspired me off-and-on for a full year, as I created little artworks and jewelry with them.

Skip ahead to 2025, and I am still enjoying that net.

Last week, while clearing out a drawer in my studio, I found a little box of those precious pieces and many mid-production earrings. I had forgotten that I tucked them away to finish another day. It’s an exciting thing when that happens to an artist (or to anyone!). I was especially pleased, because I was between projects, and floundering a little.

As fishing lures are designed to do, these little bits of shiny grabbed my attention. Once again, I’m hooked. I’m finally back to working on them, and they are as beguiling as they were 15 years ago. Perch-ance, they will beguile you, too.

As I finish them, I’ll add them to the gallery below. Each contains recycled components, fishing lures, and unique items such as handmade glass beads or Swarovski crystals. Each set is $35, including mailing anywhere in the world. Tax-free. Get in touch, if you’d like one for yourself or someone special in your life.
